Man sentenced for purchase of crocodile skull

The National Wildlife Crime Unit UK has released the following and given thanks to our Bedfordshire Police Wildlife and Rural Crime Officer PC Kittappa. Though we may have to start calling him Mick Dundee! ;) or Crocodile Kittappa!

14 August 2023

A male from Leighton Buzzard has been convicted of purchasing a crocodile skull on eBay without A10 certificate. The skull was a CITES specimen listed in Annex A.

He failed to appear at Luton Magistrates court on 10/08/2023 and was arrested and appeared at court on 14/08/2023 where he pleaded guilty. He was convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of £300, in addition to £85 CPS costs and £120 Victim surcharge.

Thanks go to PC Richard Kittappa from Bedfordshire Police’s Wildlife and Rural Crime Team for his excellent work on this case.
